Color Palooza!

I found this race on Groupon months ago and started C25K to train specifically for this 8 weeks ago.  Today was the big day even though I had already done a 5k earlier back in May. This race has several variations going on around the country with Color Me Rad probably being the most notable.  It was a lot of fun, and I was psyched because I jogged the whole way.  I cross the finish line and see that I have shaved 10 minutes off my last 5k, Wahoo!  Oh, wait, I look at my phone app that tracked my run and see it was only 2.4 miles, wah wah.  They didn't bill it as a 5k, but I just assumed.  Guess I'll have to sign up for more to improve!

What I wore: This was a very important question I asked others who'd participated in color races.  I just wore my regular compression (that makes me sound fancy doesn't it, but they are from Target and just that C9 brand lol) capris that were black and a white t-shirt, although I got one for being in the race too.  I immediately cut the arms off of it which was the best decision ever!  Much more comfortable.  Others had told me to wear my regular running shoes that I was used to so I did.  I then topped off my look with some zebra striped sunglasses for fun.  Many participants were dressed fun in tutu's and wigs.

How I got clean: I brought some baby wipes which really didn't do much for me and a change of clothes and flip flops.  The most important thing I brought was a sheet to put on my seat for the drive home.  Everything but me stayed clean.  I rinsed out my clothes with some Oxyclean and then into the wash they went.  My race shirt was still colored a little and so was my white sports bra, but they are honor badges right?  My shoes and pants cleaned up perfectly as well as the sheet.  I did have to scrub a bit in the shower but found that using shampoo vs. soap all over helped.

I think I'm getting addicted to these races.  It feels so good to accomplish a goal.

Have you done a color run or fun themed 5k?  What was your experience?

I realized I never updated my Halloween Pictures.

My little guys were just adorable this Halloween and boy did they haul in the treats.

Alex dressed up as Spider Man for trick-or-treating at preschool and had a great time going around the classrooms getting goodies.

For actual trick-or-treating, Alex went as a fireman and Cameron went as his faithful companion, a dalmatian.  I have to pat myself on the back for decorating the wagon up as a fire truck.

I liked getting into the spirit of the season.  It is such a let down when the trick-or-treaters that do come around have no costumes or manners :(

Good thing I got this up before the next holiday!

Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken

I love spicy Buffalo Chicken and this tasty recipe was a snap to make.

I found this on Pinterest originating from here but below is my own variation and recommendations.

3-4 Chicken Breasts (I used fresh)
Franks Red Hot Sauce (regular or buffalo)
Dried Ranch Dressing Mix
2-3 tbsp. butter

Place Chicken in Slow Cooker
Pour approx. 1/2 bottle of sauce on top
1/4 to 1/2 of the dressing mix.  (I used 1/2 and found it to be too salty)

Cook on low for 6-8 hours

Shred up the chicken, add more sauce or a little water if necessary, but the chicken will shred up perfectly.
Put butter on top for about 15 more minutes, stir and then serve

**I think adding a little cream cheese to this recipe also might be a nice addition, but I'd melt that in the slow cooker prior to adding the chicken**

This is so yummy and very versatile to serve with anything.  I especially love it mixed in a cool salad with a little ranch dressing.  With the Super Bowl coming up too this would be a…

Pirate Party Game - Ring Toss

Why didn't I think of this?!  I came across this from Hostess with the Mostess site, my go-to party planning inspiration blog.  What an awesome game and pretty inexpensive if you were a savvy shopper and picked up the pirate hooks for $1 at Target along with some swim diving rings also in the $1 spot.

This would've been perfect for Alex's 4th Birthday Pirate Party where we played "Pin the Hook on Captain Hook".
