My New Toy

Isn't it preeeettttyyy?!  It is called the Fitbit and it was my first present to myself.  You can find them on Amazon or  I've had it about a month now and really enjoy it.  I will confess it hasn't gotten worn much this past week or so due to the fact I've been playing in the water a lot and it isn't waterproof.  It is a neat little gadget that is a fancy pedometer. It tracks my activity level, time duration, steps, calories, distance, and my sleep habits (this would've been fun to see while I was pregnant or with newborns in the house).  It gives me a neat little update anytime I log on to my website and it connects with My Fitness Pal too which is great.  I'm interested to see how my activity levels are when I'm back at work.  I find it to be pretty accurate although calories burned and distance can always be a little off with any instrument I think.

Color Palooza!

I found this race on Groupon months ago and started C25K to train specifically for this 8 weeks ago.  Today was the big day even though I had already done a 5k earlier back in May. This race has several variations going on around the country with Color Me Rad probably being the most notable.  It was a lot of fun, and I was psyched because I jogged the whole way.  I cross the finish line and see that I have shaved 10 minutes off my last 5k, Wahoo!  Oh, wait, I look at my phone app that tracked my run and see it was only 2.4 miles, wah wah.  They didn't bill it as a 5k, but I just assumed.  Guess I'll have to sign up for more to improve!

Chicken Cheesy Tortilla Soup (Max & Erma Copy Cat)

I love the Chicken Tortilla soup from Max & Erma's and I've managed to *possibly* make mine even better.  It is souper easy to make and tasty!

Ingredients:1-2 Chicken Breast (fully cooked and chopped)1 small onion, diced2 tbsp butter1 can chicken broth2 tbsp corn starch 1 can cheddar cheese soup (Campbell's makes one)1 can of water1 can Rotel tomatoes w/chilies 1 can diced green chilies (for more kick use jalapenos optional)1 cup shredded mexican mix cheese3 slices of cheddar cheese salt/pepper to taste Directions **I cooked my chicken in the slow cooker which gave it a shredded consistency, bake it or poach it if you'd like it cubed**
**the amount and type of cheese depends on your liking, I used what I had in the house which is what I listed in the ingredients**

One and Done

Obviously this wasn't the choice for my family, but I'm surrounded by lots of friends that are "one and done" and my bff is an only child.  I found this piece and thought it was interesting albeit, not very well written. 

Opinion: Why one isn't the lonliest number
I'm not so sure I agree with having "one child gives you freedom to live the wired existence". This gives the tone that if you have one kid you've still done your duty achieving "mom status" but now you don't have to give up so much time online".  To me there is a little bit more that goes into the decision of becoming a parent than that.

I think she brings up other interesting points article.  Lauren Sandler writes, "One of the central myths of America is that we can engineer a life without tradeoffs."  I completely agree with this.  Even the choice to just have one child puts a woman in the position to start evaluating her lists and seeing where things n…

Let's do Disney

When did planning a trip to Disney become as stressful as planning my honeymoon?  So many headspinning options!

Anyways, we have our reservations made and I'm super excited!  We are going later this year and surprising the kids with the trip.  I think that they are the perfect ages for it. 

So far we have our resort nailed down but that might be subject to change and we're staying for five nights.  The parks we are hoping to see are:
Magic KingdomEpcotAnimal KingdomDowntown Disney (no tickets needed) I'm not a fan of having a trip all planned out minute by minute, but the Mousexperts tell me that is what you have to do if you don't want to waste time.  I'm hoping to find a happy balance. I have pinned what appear to be some useful tips and I'm also picking my friends brains that have been there too.

One of my biggest pet peeves is that people stay stuck in their pasts.  This is completely different than learning and growing from your past.  Instead, these are the people who resist change that naturally occurs with life and let it suffocate them like quicksand.  They are incapable of moving forward.

I'm not saying I'm not guilty of letting things from my past stick to me.  In fact I'm very nostalgic and usually can be found analyzing things like "how'd that happen?" However, I know better than to be like this all of the time after seeing the damage it can do.  Plus, I love the amazing feeling of new things happening.  It gives you drive and things moving forward have always had a way of working out for the better even though at the time the future picture is blurry.  You have to enjoy the ride and how fast it goes.
