Movies That Should Never Be Remade...Ever.

So I flipped through the channels the other night and saw that Lifetime had remade the ultimate chick flick classic, Steel Magnolias.  Here is the synopsis from Lifetime's website:

In Lifetime's contemporary version of the beloved stage play and 1989 film, “Steel Magnolias” chronicles the lives and friendship of six women in Louisiana. Supporting each other through their triumphs and tragedies, they congregate at Truvy’s beauty shop to ponder the mysteries of life and death, husbands and children - and hair and nails - all the important topics that truly unite and celebrate women.

The Cast-- Golden Globe® and Grammy® Award winner and Academy Award® nominee Queen Latifah stars in and executive produces the film, reuniting her with producing duo Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, from the Oscar and Golden Globe winning "Chicago" and "Hairspray." Directed by Kenny Leon (A Raisin in the Sun), the film features Queen Latifah as ‘M’Lynn’, Tony® Award winner …

Slimming Down Sunday - Week 42

Total Difference: -3.6 pounds since Wednesday.

Notes: I started my cleanse last Wednesday and I've felt great the past 4 days.  It is a 24 day Challenge, so I've got a little while to go, but my appetites is cut way back, which I attribute to my cleanse and not stress.  I've had zero, zip, zilch pop and am not missing it either.  I'm feeling great throughout the day, but still have my 7:00-8:00 snooze fest where I just want to die, but I power thru most nights.  I need to work on getting better sleep, but I think that will come.  I just have to make my bed time a goal and turn off the TV.

It's OK Thursday

It's OK.... I'm still crying daily at some point about my mom, if not multiple times a day

I've yet to get the boys their Halloween Costumes and we have a party to attend tomorrow night

I don't care for Pumpkin Spiced Lattes

I didn't really like the movie Crazy, Stupid, Love...sure I laughed, but I didn't like the story that much.  Oh, I did enjoy the Ryan Gosling scenes, don't get me wrong.

I also didn't really like the new Lifetime remake of Steel Magnolias.  The acting seemed too forced too me and  not natural.

I was a nut job and watched Steel Magnolias this week of all weeks.  It helped the tears flow.

That God seems to be testing my outer limits lately.  As long as my immediate family stays safe, healthy and functioning, he can throw what he wants my way.

Toddler Obsessions

C's obsession as of lately is easy -- What is A doing?  Can I do it?

Monkey see, Monkey do is the game we've been playing around here lately.

Whether it is eating, coloring, reading, going potty, running in the leaves, jumping on the furniture, C is always A's shadow.  The toys are trying to adjust to being fought over and we are enforcing to the boys that we share things, sigh.

And you can forget about them being in separate rooms.  I guess that part makes it easy on me to know where I can find one, I can always find the other :)

Brotherly love, it just melts my heart.

Mopey Monday

I'm not feeling very good lately and just wanted to come and put it out here that my mom passed away last Wednesday.  I'm not ready to write about it in detail yet, but I will soon.

For now I'm going to continue my light-hearted posts because I enjoy that they get my mind off the obvious.

Thanks for your understanding and thoughts the past few months with my mom.

Slimming Down Sunday - Week 41

Total Difference: no gain/loss this week.

Notes: No gain or loss this week.  I'm starting a cleanse on Wednesday though and am very optimistic about how it will help me out.  Stay tuned...

Happy Anniversary to Us!

Was it really 7 yrs ago today that I said I do?  Some days it feels like 7, some it feels like 14.  That isn't to say we don't feel fresh and still in love, just that so much seems to have happened on 7 years that when I look back on our wedding pictures we look like a couple of kids.

It was a no brainer for us to pick fall as the time to say our "I Do's".  I just love the weather and the color palette couldn't have been more fun to chose from.   Plus I turn into an evil person in the hot sun so summer was out.

We got married in an old boys school that had been renovated as a banquet hall.  The venue even had a chapel on site.  There was a gorgeous grotto outside too that I really wanted to get married in, but didn't want to take the chance of the weather being bad.  We did a sit down dinner and reception immediately following the ceremony.

I laugh now because when we were interviewing photographers I didn't want digital because I didn't know if i…

Slimming Down Sunday -- Week 40

Total Difference:  +1 pound this week.

Notes: Wahoo!  I'm full term, j/k.  Well I'm only up 1 lb today which has to be a fatty lie considering I know I ate WAY too many calories over the past 72 hours.  Buca Di Beppo anyone?  Anyways, it is DDay, and I have yet to reach the illusive goal yet.  Or even back to my mini goal back in May.  Wah Wah.

My spirit is not broken, I'm forging ahead and will conquer this.

It's OK Thursday

It's OK....
I am leaving my husband with the kids alone this weekend to have a huge ass slumber party with some other moms I've met online.

that this slumber party is also taking place before our 7th anniversary on Monday.

that people think I am a little coo-coo for meeting up with people I've only ever associated with online, actually I have met about 6 of them in real life.

my youngest has woken up at 4am this week.  I have tomorrow off and plan to sleep in.

that I'm so behind in grading

I've had double the caffeine I usually need this week

I've snuck all of my favorite candy out of my kid's parade loot

I've yet to get new winter coats for the boys, it hasn't snowed yet and it's supposed to be like 70 degrees this weekend.

Meal Planning Monday

Sunday
Out to eat

Monday Chicken Shwarma with Naan and Rice

Tuesday Baked Ravioli(a double batch, I'm making one for my friend who is a new mommy)
Wednesday Philly Steak Sandwiches w/tater tots
Thursday Leftovers / Freezer Dash
Friday Boys on their own (Mom's weekend out!)
Saturday Boys on their own

Slimming Down Sunday - Week 39

Total Difference:  -5 pounds this week.

Notes: Whew, I knew last week had to be a bit of a fluke.  I'm now only 1 pound up from my lowest this whole journey in which I probably could have popped out a baby by now.  My goal week is next Monday and I'm pretty sure without some sort of horrible gastrointestinal infection I won't be making it.  However, I'm not trying to come down on myself too hard.  Maybe the longer it takes to lose this, the longer it will stay off.

It's OK Thursday

This is my first time joining in on this blog hop and I just had to join in once I saw what it was all about.  How nice on a Thursday to weekly admit the things in the week that have been building up in your life as being OK.

It's OK....
I slacked on grading this weekend so I could enjoy time with my husband alone

I'm an adult and still love Lucky Charms

that I was running late yesterday morning to work and also needed to get gas, I still got to work on time

I ran over a squirrel this week.  Although saddened, I know I was actually the 2nd car to hit the little fella and my hit was the one that really put him out of his misery.

I look 12 with my new bangs

that I own 3 pairs of black boots and 3 pairs of brown boots yet I still want these

that I have been a stress ball about politics lately.  It just means I'm an active citizen.

Pumpkin Muffins - 2 ingredients!

I had an extra can of pumpkin lying around and googled what I could do with it.  Up popped this recipe which thrilled me because I only needed to buy a box of Spice Cake mix to accompany the pumpkin.  That was it, nothing else!

I knew these would be a healthier alternative for my boys too.  These would also make a great fall birthday treat or bread I think.  I made a homemade cream cheese glaze for half of them, oh my yummy!

Ingredients: 15oz. can of pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie mix)
Spice Cake box mix (or probably any flavor you prefer)

Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Combine ingredients
Put in muffin papers or in a greased muffin sheet
Bake for 18-22 minutes

Enjoy!

Favorite Toddler Toys for Boys

I posted recently about the Toys R Us Hot Toy List and wasn't really impressed.  But I do have 2 toddler boys (almost 5 & 2) with tons of toys so I thought I'd use this post to share some of their Hot Toys.  Hope you get some ideas here for your little ones.  Head on over to Growing up Geeky to see her link up for other Favorite Toddler Toys.  I'll be posting my boys "wish lists" for this year soon too.

Fisher-Price TRIO Building Set with storage

They boys love this set.  The pieces are a good size for them both to play with and are more challenging for them than megablocks.

It also comes in various theme sets such as Farm, Batman, Hot Wheels, City, and even sets geared towards girls.

$15-$25 usually depending on set

Hot Wheels Wall Tracks Daredevil Curve Track Set

This set worried me putting it up on my freshly refinished walls in our basement, but they use 3M Command technology to help protect my walls, and so far they've held up great.  There are several …

Gamecock Fan -- will travel

This past weekend to celebrate our anniversary, Scooter and I went to UK to see my alma mater the South Carolina Gamecocks play.  Heaven!

I spent the first half of the game not acting very lady-like since we were messing things up for ourselves, but finally after halftime we got going and won.  Don't you just love how I say we like I'm out there on the field with them?  I wish I could get down to SC for a home game again.  The atmosphere is incredible.  Someday I'll be back.  We hung around to see the team board the buses too.  Let's just say that those boys are way bigger in person and I have no idea how I'd go about trying to feed them dinner.

It was so nice for just the 2 of us to get away.  Ah, the pleasure of sleeping in a king size bed with no little ones to wake us up, sigh. And let's not forget getting to eat a meal by myself with no one mooching off my plate, and it was hot! Scooter didn't even mind joining in on some retail therapy either.  The we…
