The Balanced Life

This week's Toddle Along Tuesday topic is finding balance in your life.

Does this even exist?  I'm hoping so.

There is a lot I try to accomplish.  Keeping up with Kardashians Me:
  • Wife and all it's duties
  • Mother, nuture nuture nuture
  • Teacher & Professional Development
  • Friends/Socializing
  • Managing Finances
  • Hobbies, I just want to play!
  • Homemaker - laundry, cleaning, yard stuff
  • My up & coming Etsy Shop
  • Blogging
  • Cooking / Meal Planning
  • Working out, trying to lose weight
  • Family Obligations
  • Kid Activities (none exist yet)
Cue Jesse Spano, "I'm so excited!" because there just aren't enough hours in the day.

I'm not sure how I make all work to be honest.  I think I go through cycles for sure:
  • Auto-pilot- this is when I don't even know a week has flown by but somehow all systems are stable
  • PMS meltdown- this is where I find myself at least once a month about 48 hours before her arrival that I find myself crying over everything that was usually triggered by nothing
  • Ann Taylor mode- this is where I carry myself like a true confident woman handling everything with class and style....this mode rarely makes an appearance
  • Segment mode - This one is where I just try to focus on one thing at a time, but that can backfire when other things get neglected.  I use this one a lot.
  • Firefighter mode- This is where I run around like a crazy woman trying to get things in put back together because too many of them have gotten away from me.  This also might be caused from my awesome procrastination skillz.
  • Goldilocks mode - this is where everything is just right, just enough.  Not too much, not too little.  I'm not good at everything, but I'm not neglecting things either.  This is my zen mode.  My balance mode.  The key to staying in this mode is letting things slide off your back and realizing everything doesn't have to be perfect to still add up to 100%.
What about you?  How do you find balance?  Can you relate to any of my above modes or cycles?

  1. Found you on toddle along Tuesday. I like your blog. I'm a new follower!

  2. I think I am on Auto-pilot mode the most. The weeks fly by and I have no idea what I accomplished. PMS mode is the WORST for sure! Very cute post!

  3. Ha, I love this post! I could totally relate to Jessi Spano - then and now. And I think I go through all of those exact same modes. ;)

I realized I never updated my Halloween Pictures.

My little guys were just adorable this Halloween and boy did they haul in the treats.

Alex dressed up as Spider Man for trick-or-treating at preschool and had a great time going around the classrooms getting goodies.

For actual trick-or-treating, Alex went as a fireman and Cameron went as his faithful companion, a dalmatian.  I have to pat myself on the back for decorating the wagon up as a fire truck.

I liked getting into the spirit of the season.  It is such a let down when the trick-or-treaters that do come around have no costumes or manners :(

Good thing I got this up before the next holiday!

Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken

I love spicy Buffalo Chicken and this tasty recipe was a snap to make.

I found this on Pinterest originating from here but below is my own variation and recommendations.

3-4 Chicken Breasts (I used fresh)
Franks Red Hot Sauce (regular or buffalo)
Dried Ranch Dressing Mix
2-3 tbsp. butter

Place Chicken in Slow Cooker
Pour approx. 1/2 bottle of sauce on top
1/4 to 1/2 of the dressing mix.  (I used 1/2 and found it to be too salty)

Cook on low for 6-8 hours

Shred up the chicken, add more sauce or a little water if necessary, but the chicken will shred up perfectly.
Put butter on top for about 15 more minutes, stir and then serve

**I think adding a little cream cheese to this recipe also might be a nice addition, but I'd melt that in the slow cooker prior to adding the chicken**

This is so yummy and very versatile to serve with anything.  I especially love it mixed in a cool salad with a little ranch dressing.  With the Super Bowl coming up too this would be a…

Pirate Party Game - Ring Toss

Why didn't I think of this?!  I came across this from Hostess with the Mostess site, my go-to party planning inspiration blog.  What an awesome game and pretty inexpensive if you were a savvy shopper and picked up the pirate hooks for $1 at Target along with some swim diving rings also in the $1 spot.

This would've been perfect for Alex's 4th Birthday Pirate Party where we played "Pin the Hook on Captain Hook".
